DACHSER Food Logistics acquires full stake in Papp Italia
Effective January 1st 2017, DACHSER has acquired all remaining shares in Italian food logistics company Papp Italia from German co-shareholder Balthasar Papp, Munich. The purchase leaves DACHSER as sole shareholder in Papp Italia, which is headquartered in the northern Italian town of Pradelle di Nogarole Rocca.
By making this acquisition, DACHSER is looking to significantly expand its contract logistics business in Italy over the coming years, and to continue building up its international activities.

Italy is a key player in the European food trade, both as a producer and a consumer. By increasing its import and export numbers, DACHSER consolidates its role within the European Food Network.
Papp Italia will remain under the current management team. Previous co-shareholder Balthasar Papp will be withdrawing from the warehouse and groupage business in Italy to concentrate its management efforts on its own priorities, including company digitalization.
DACHSER and Papp Italia’s collaboration in temperature-controlled food logistics between Germany and Italy began in 2010. In mid-2012, DACHSER acquired a 50-percent stake in the company. Then in 2013, along with ten other European food logistics companies, both partners were founding members of the European Food Network, which is Europe’s biggest distribution network by geographical area for the transportation of temperature-controlled foodstuffs.

Papp Italia was founded in 1997, employs a workforce of 170 and specializes in the warehousing and distribution of chilled foodstuffs in Italy. Operating from its headquarters and hub near Verona, Papp Italia is a regular supplier to more than 1,200 customers all over Italy. It handles most business deliveries directly, drawing on a wide-ranging network of partners for smaller consignments. In 2016, Papp Italia handled 220,000 metric tons of food items, achieving annual sales of 37 million euros. The company’s facility near Verona has more than 17,000 square meters of cold storage, with a variety of temperature zones and 41 ramps.
