DACHSER breaks ground on its new logistics center in Ingolstadt
Warehouse and transit terminal expand capacity of European groupage network
Construction of the new facilities is being handled by project developer VIB Vermögen AG, which will lease the logistics facility to DACHSER on a long-term basis. The 50,800 m2 property is conveniently located close to the A9 highway, which connects southern Germany’s major cities of Munich and Nuremberg. Parking spaces for trucks, swap bodies, and vans are also planned for the outdoor area.

“We’ve built up a strong customer base in the Ingolstadt economic area over the past few years,” explains Markus Wenzl, General Manager of DACHSER’s Munich logistics center, to which the new branch in Ingolstadt will be assigned for organizational purposes. “As a logistics partner to the local economy, we will have a direct presence in the area in the years ahead. At the same time, the new location allows us to serve the strong economic region between Munich and Nuremberg, right in the heart of Bavaria.” According to Wenzl, the location on the A9 also offers the best conditions for international transport to Southern, Central, and Eastern Europe.
Ecological aspects are already being taken into account in the logistics facility’s construction, including a green roof and façade as well as the transition to electromobility, all with sights set on a Gold certificate issued by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). A photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof, and the energy it generates will be used primarily for charging battery-electric trucks, yard vehicles, and cars. The building interiors will feature an energy-efficient LED lighting system.

In addition, the groupage terminal will be equipped with the award-winning @ILO technology for groupage handling right from the start. Winner of the 2023 German Logistics Award, this digital twin eliminates manual scanning processes in incoming goods, thereby speeding up individual handling procedures by up to 30 percent, and generally ensures greater transparency in the groupage terminal.
“This location in Ingolstadt consolidates our German and European network,” says Alexander Tonn, COO Road Logistics at DACHSER. “We continuously invest in additional capacity for our customers. That’s because reliability and quality are the decisive factors for further growth in groupage logistics, especially in times of economic uncertainty. In Ingolstadt, we’re creating a state-of-the-art and future-proof location for the transport and storage of groupage, one that’s optimally integrated into our European and global network. DACHSER’s customers are sure to benefit.”
