DACHSER celebrates its 20th anniversary in Austria

With the founding of DACHSER Austria 20 years ago, DACHSER expanded its international network and set a new milestone for successful and sustainable growth. The Austrian country organization now has a strong branch network with nine locations, employs almost 700 people and generates an annual turnover of 202 million euros. Located in Austria, an important logistics hub in Europe, DACHSER Austria plays a crucial role in the global logistics service provider's network.

Logistics in the heart of Europe: DACHSER launched its own country organization in Austria 20 years ago. In addition to uniform performance standards and quality criteria, the commitment of the family-owned company´s employees is particularly important for its success. In Austria, DACHSER offers its customers transport logistics, warehousing and customized services within the two business fields "European Logistics" and "Air & Sea Logistics" and is connected to the global DACHSER network with 382 locations in 43 countries.

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, DACHSER Austria organized a press event at the Himberg site in mid-June to celebrate this milestone. "We are proud of our history and the progress we have made over the last two decades," says Günter Hirschbeck, Managing Director European Logistics Austria. "Our commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability will continue to drive our success in the future. The needs of our customers have evolved. Speed, accuracy, flexibility and reliability are decisive competitive factors for them. DACHSER stands for state-of-the-art, efficient and IT-driven logistics solutions. This is made possible by the close integration of our global transport and warehouse networks, long-term partnerships and consistent digital networking worldwide." Peter Deutschbauer who has been Managing Director Air & Sea Logistics Eastern Europe and Austria since 2023, adds: "As an expert in worldwide air and sea freight logistics, we stand for global, integrated and efficient supply chain solutions worldwide."

DACHSER Austria on the road to success

As all DACHSER locations work according to the same rules and processes, Austrian customers also benefit from this. "One advantage is our decentralized branches, which are located in regional proximity to our customers. This enables fast response times and our personal Customer Service teams act as the first point of contact on site," says Hirschbeck.

"We are proud of our history and the progress we have made over the last two decades," says Günter Hirschbeck, Managing Director European Logistics Austria.

The locations are continuously being expanded and modernized. Just last year, DACHSER Austria began expanding and upgrading the Himberg site near Vienna. At the same time, expansion work began again this spring at the Linz logistics center in Hörsching. "This has once again underlined the importance of DACHSER in Austria as a logistics hub in Europe," explains Hirschbeck, looking back on the milestones.

Logistics is People Business

"Logistics is People Business" - this guiding principle makes it clear that the employees at DACHSER are the key factor for the company's success. The search for good specialists is therefore becoming increasingly important. "At DACHSER Austria, high-quality apprenticeship training has therefore traditionally been a high priority," says Günter Hirschbeck. Around 80 young logistics specialists are currently being trained. During the event, Anja Schlesinger, Head of Training at the Vienna logistics center, presented the training concept with its many opportunities and collaborations.

Long-term climate protection strategy

DACHSER is pursuing a long-term climate protection strategy and, with a focus on efficiency, innovation and integrative responsibility, is driving the change towards more sustainable logistics together with customers and partners.

The company has been using battery-powered electric vehicles since 2018, including as part of the sustainable city delivery concept "DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery". Tailored to local requirements, this concept uses battery-electric vans and trucks as well as electrically assisted cargo bikes. The latter are specially designed for general cargo and palletized goods. These zero-emission vehicles are used as standard to deliver all shipments locally emission-free in a defined area of the city center.

The concept is now being implemented in regular operations in the Road Logistics business field - in 13 cities across Europe, explained Manuel Schmelz, Business Development Manager Solutions Austria, at the press event in Himberg. DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery is also to be launched in the capital.

To illustrate this, two FUSO E-Canter and a QUANTRON e-truck were presented at the 20th anniversary event, which will drive emission-free in Vienna's city center in the future. An electrically assisted cargo bike, which is currently on the road in various European cities, was also shown.

DACHSER Austria signed the letter of intent for the "Zero Emission Transport" project in Vienna at the beginning of June. The pilot project is an initiative of the city's chamber of commerce and involves the participation of over 30 companies from various sectors. DACHSER Austria is expected to start using e-trucks for deliveries in the coming weeks.

Award as "Leading Company Austria"

DACHSER Austria was certified as a "Leading Company Austria" during the event. Monica Rintersbacher, Managing Director of Leitbetriebe Austria, presented the certificate to Günter Hirschbeck and Peter Deutschbauer on the occasion of the anniversary celebrations.

"DACHSER is not only one of the most successful logistics providers, but also sets an example for its employees and actively promotes innovation and sustainability within the company. Leitbetriebe Austria congratulates DACHSER on its 20th anniversary and its certification as a leading company," says Rintersbacher.
