DACHSER expands warehouse capacity in Europe
As it builds new facilities in Austria, France, and Germany, DACHSER is strengthening its contract logistics operations across Europe. Integrated logistics services including transport, warehousing, and value-added services will be available in even more locations.
“By offering a full range of contract logistics services, we also support our customers in their global supply chain management process,” says Michael Schilling, Chief Operations Officer Road Logistics (COO) at DACHSER. At the end of June 2016, the family-owned company held a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of its logistics center in Hörsching near Linz, Austria. A new warehouse will provide around 10,000 square meters of storage space and over 20,000 pallet spaces. The new warehouse, in which DACHSER has invested around EUR 10 million, is expected to be operational in early 2017. For the customer, Hörsching means everything from a single source: warehousing and customized services as an integral part of contract logistics, direct connections to a comprehensive European transport network, and air and sea freight services provided by DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics.

Michael Schilling, Chief Operations Officer Road Logistics (COO) at DACHSERIn France, DACHSER just expanded its warehouse capacity in two locations. In Salon de Provence, which is located in southern France, a location recently opened for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region with 12,000 square meters and space for 14,500 pallets. Existing storage was also expanded in Reims, located in northern France. Offering a total of 27,000 pallet spaces, this location offers contract logistics solutions especially for wine, spirits, and industrial customers.
Überherrn Logistics Center
The company’s investment in expanding the Überherrn Logistics Center (located in the German state of Saarland) has resulted in a contract logistics warehouse offering 11,000 square meters of space, with approximately 22,000 shelf pallet spaces and 600 square meters of office space. The amount invested was also EUR 10 million. The facility should be ready by the end of October 2016 and will result in 80 new jobs in the medium term. The Überherrn location has a dual function in the DACHSER network: while the logistics center conducts regular branch business during the day, it serves as a Eurohub for centralized handling of European groupage starting at 8 p.m. With its location near the Saar River, DACHSER combines European overland transport with intercontinental routes and seamlessly interlinks sea and air freight for both imports and exports.
“Together with our colleagues on site, we are working hard to internationalize DACHSER’s contract logistics,” says Alexander Tonn, who heads this department for the company. “These investments demonstrate how successfully our contract logistics operations have developed in recent years.”
