DACHSER invests in the Spanish fleet
The two-hundredth double-decker trailer, mega-trucks on two routes, and a FUSO Canter Eco Hybrid in the heart of Madrid, Spain’s capital city.
DACHSER celebrated delivery of the 200th new semi-trailer for its fleet from automotive manufacturer Krone with a ceremonial handing over of keys in Madrid. Over the past three years, DACHSER Spain and DACHSER Portugal have invested some EUR 9 million in the fleet and refurbished more than 500 vehicles. Streamlined, double-decker trailers not only increase loading capacity from 33 to 66 pallets, but also decrease the carbon footprint for each shipment.
First FUSO Canter Eco Hybrid on the streets of the Spanish capital
Meanwhile, DACHSER joined forces with Mercedes-Benz in Madrid to put the first FUSO Canter Eco Hybrid on the streets of the Spanish capital. Weighing in at 7.5 metric tons, the hybrid truck with Euro 6 technology is a welcome addition to DACHSER Spain’s fleet for deliveries to the city center. And because it uses 23 percent less fuel than a conventional truck, the hybrid meets the ambitious targets set by the Madrid city council.
Mega-trucks are already operating in network traffic between Madrid and Barcelona as well as for DACHSER Cargoplus between Arteixo (Galicia) and Lleida (Catalonia). Spain approved the use of these trucks, which measure 25.25 meters long and have a maximum weight of 60 metric tons, on December 24, 2015.
“We’re open to using new technologies when they fit into our network processes and have been shown to add value for our customers,” explains Juan Quintana, Managing Director European Logistics Iberia. “If they also allow us to reduce the number of trips and decrease the carbon footprint of each shipment, then it’s a win-win situation.”
