EU Mobility Package: What changes this year and what it means

New conditions for a more efficient, harmonized and socially acceptable road transport sector: The EU Mobility Package 2020/2022 is intended to drive forward European standardization in the field of freight forwarding and logistics.

The EU mobility package was already adopted in 2020. However, the innovations will come into force in stages at different points in time. Changes in 2022 are primarily intended to improve working conditions for professional drivers and create fair competitive conditions for companies within the EU.

A number of changes were already made in February 2022. More are to follow in May 2022. No transition period is planned. The following key points are central to this:

  • Digitization of the tachograph (valid from 02 February 2022)
  • Appropriate working conditions and social protection in the context of posting of workers (valid from 02 February 2022)
  • Obligation to return the vehicles (valid from February 21, 2022)
  • Cooling-off phases for cabotages (valid from February 21, 2022)
  • Extension of the financial capacity of forwarding and logistics companies (valid from February 21, 2022)
  • Extension of the permit and license requirement in international commercial road haulage (planned from May 21, 2022)

For the freight forwarding and logistics market, the cost increases and increased bureaucracy are leading to a tightening of the market situation.

DACHSER therefore began at an early stage to continuously assess the respective influences on production and the cost situation in the road network and to derive measures. Even in this situation, the top priority for DACHSER is open and transparent communication with our customers. All resulting changes are therefore communicated to our customers in good time.
