Growing with the industry: DACHSER DIY-Logistics
“Come and grow,” the motto of the spoga+gafa 2018 garden trade fair in Cologne, fits perfectly with this year’s appearance by DACHSER DIY-Logistics. The industry solution is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Visit the DACHSER DIY-Logistics booth (D001 in Hall 6.1) from September 2 to 4 to hear the team talk about how the solution has grown along with the industry and what factors are essential for success both today and in the future.
Back in 1998, DACHSER launched its DIY-Logistics industry solution to offer flexible, integrated complete solutions for home and garden improvement. Ralf Meistes, Department Head DACHSER DIY-Logistics, has been there from the very beginning. “We started out with an annual volume of some 300,000 shipments within Germany. Today, we transport about 4.6 million shipments every year throughout Europe and the world,” he says. This impressive development is testament to the specialized solution’s success as well as the consistently high quality it offers. “We’ve grown along with the DIY and garden market as a stable and reliable partner, and our customers have benefitted from our continuous development. This steady growth and our deep understanding of the industry are reflected in our DIY-Logistics pipeline, with which we can offer our customers tailored solutions from DACHSER’s full range of services.”

Ralf Meistes, Department Head DACHSER DIY-LogisticsThe DIY-Logistics pipeline combines the standardized core services from the groupage network—transport, warehousing, value-added services, and integrated IT solutions—with custom service elements for the DIY industry. Customers enjoy the cost and synergy effects that result from the expansion and continuous standardization of processes within DACHSER’s global network. This network has grown considerably over the past 20 years, and today draws on expertise from 396 locations in 44 countries. As the groupage leader in the German and European markets, DACHSER operates a close-knit overland transport network. The groupage network for sea freight is also becoming increasingly close-knit, most recently through the launch of 26 new LCL (less than container load) connections at the beginning of the year. The appeal of LCL services comes down to timing: through coordinating the grouping of goods with scheduled container trips between ports, customers benefit from improved planning, transit times, and transparency for their shipments.
Collaboration with the Synlog supplier
Another constant growth factor for DACHSER DIY-Logistics was its collaboration with the Synlog supplier cooperation, an arrangement that is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. “We have been working very well together for 20 years now, so well that last year Synlog chose DACHSER as its exclusive partner to handle groupage logistics for its members,” Meistes says. For DACHSER DIY-Logistics, there is every indication that the future will bring further growth, as visitors to the booth at spoga+gafa will see for themselves.
