Running Start for Electric Motors
In Frenštát pod Radhoštěm in the Czech Republic, DACHSER has expanded its collaboration with the Siemens Group to include in-house contract logistics. Thanks to painstaking preparation, the startup directly at the production site proceeded without interruption: Within 48 hours, DACHSER assumed responsibility for the warehouse and continued operations while upholding the highest standards.
Short distances, quick processes, and added-value services marked by efficiency: All of this is at the heart of in-house logistics, a service that further expands DACHSER’s collaboration with the Siemens Group in the Czech Republic. For this purpose, the logistics specialist has now taken over operation of a 2,400 square meter warehouse for finished goods in Frenštát south of Ostrava, where Siemens produces low voltage, asynchronous electric motors for pumps, compressors, and air conditioners. In addition to warehousing and distribution (Siemens loads about 200 trucks there per month), DACHSER’s portfolio of services includes extensive value-added services.
High standards are the basis of customized in-house logistics
“Using our own closely interlinked IT systems, we can optimize and integrate informational and logistics processes—and hence the added value along the entire supply chain,” explains Alexander Tonn, Head of Contract Logistics at DACHSER.

“In this case, for distribution of the electric motors, we are supplementing the customer’s own in-house logistics with the well-established, standardized processes of our European groupage network,” Tonn continues.
Material management and dimensionally correct packing
In Frenštát, such value-added services include, for example, management of special packaging and dimensionally correct packing of special high-quality electric motors. So that this could be done in a customized way, precisely tailored to what is needed, DACHSER experts from the Břeclav branch undertook a comprehensive analysis of the current status and needs before DACHSER took over the warehouse. During this process, they were able to draw on years of in-house and contract logistics experience that DACHSER Czech Republic has accumulated with international customers, including Otis, the world’s largest manufacturer of elevators, escalators, and moving walkways.
Completely reorganized in 48 hours
Based on this preparation, the startup of the in-house logistics project proceeded without a hitch. “Only 48 hours went by between the time DACHSER assumed responsibility for the warehouse and the time it started operations in the customer’s warehouse management system. Tasks included upgrading and retrofitting part of the facility and optimizing some processes. Production and distribution were not curtailed at any time,” says Jan Polter, Sales and Marketing Director at DACHSER Czech Republic. The result validates the collaboration between Siemens and DACHSER. Jan Polter continues, “We have improved the handling processes in the warehouse, sped up the logistics processes, and expanded the warehouse capacity so that it can store an additional 250 electric motors.”
