It works! Three days and over 2,000 kilometers with the e-truck

The Dachser branch in Bad Salzuflen uses the battery-powered Renault Trucks E-Tech D for daily distribution transport around the branch. With a range of around 300 kilometers, the agile and quiet e-truck is well suited for this purpose. But is the vehicle also up to a trip across Europe, across several national borders?

This question arose when Matthias Syrbe, who works in scheduling, asked for support for a transport for charitable purposes. Furniture was to be transported to Hungary by truck - over 2,000 kilometers there and back. Operations Manager Hans-Jürgen Westerhoff wanted to help. But only the electric truck was available. No reason for Matthias Syrbe and his co-driver to look elsewhere - and the perfect occasion for a little adventure. In this interview, he talks about their journey.

After the US election: What about global trade policy?

The United States has voted. What’s already clear today, shortly after the election, is that the next US presidency will take place in a geopolitically confusing situation in which one thing rules above all: uncertainty, which will continue to lead to isolationism. Does this mean the end of globalization? Has the idea of free trade and cooperation on the markets outlived its usefulness? And what role does Europe play? Thoughts from Burkhard Eling, CEO of DACHSER, on what will be important in managing global trade flows in the future.

Chemical logistics is on the move - scenarios and outlook for Germany

The chemical industry is a key industry in Germany. It’s one of the largest sectors of the country’s economy and accounts for a major proportion of its exports. However, it’s also one of the sectors with very high energy requirements. Companies began developing strategies to replace fossil fuels even before the energy transition became necessary. However, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the resulting loss of gas as a “bridge” energy source has increased the pressure to find alternatives that would make the German chemical industry sustainable. A study entitled “Chemical logistics on the move: Scenarios and outlook for Germany,” which was supported by DACHSER Chem Logistics, examines the impact of this development on the demand for chemical logistics.

DACHSER optimizes its pioneering rolling container for store deliveries

Bringing clothing to retail without wrinkles or creases is the ultimate achievement in the transportation of fashion items. To attain it, DACHSER Fashion Logistics has developed a special rolling container for hanging and flat garments. The Retail Box (formerly Roll&GOH) can be easily transported on the truck bed together with other palleted goods and is easy for the driver to roll into the receiving fashion shop. Having launched this container around five years ago, DACHSER has now further optimized it and offers two different-sized models: Retail Box classic and small. When making these enhancements, DACHSER also considered the box’s potential for other sectors in which the stores to be supplied are often located in city centers, including the cosmetics industry and, increasingly, the electronics sector. There are no plans, however, to use it for shipping food.
